Angel Collinson was skiing in Alaska’s Neacola Range last spring and shooting the film “Paradise Waits” for Teton Gravity Research when the snow shifted to ice. She slipped and plunged more than 1,000 vertical feet — yet somehow escaped without any serious injury. Collinson, who in December became the first woman to win POWDER magazine’s “Best Line” award, described the fall last week on “Good Morning America.”
“The fall was absolutely terrifying — without question. You have no idea what you are going to tumble over and there is basically nothing you can do but hang on,” the 25-year-old said in a news release. “At first I was trying to slow myself down with my arms, but then once I started picking up speed I realized that I was going to be falling for a while and the snow was icy and there was big icy snowballs,” she said. “As I was tumbling, I covered my face and protected my head with my arms and I kind of just held on until I stopped.”
