Matt Ladley Mens Snowboard Superpipe Gold

The Mens Snowboard Superpipe final was changed to a single run event after it started dumping snow at Buttermilk on Saturday. “Dreaming about winning an X Games gold medal doesn’t usually go this way,” said Ladley. Ladley acknowledged that the scores tonight were lower than are typically put down in this event. His first-place score was lower than every third-place score since at least 2008.

“It is unfortunate, in a way, because some of the riders didn’t put down their best runs first run and there was a lot of good riders out there and a lot of bigger runs that we were hoping to see,” Ladley said. “But, then again, that’s just kind of how it goes sometimes.”

Pushing back the finish of the contest to Sunday was discussed but there was concern about whether the competition could be completed even with a delay because more snow was in the forecast, ESPN spokesman Danny Chi said.
